This draft bill, which is expected to have a top priority in the agenda of the Grand National Assembly during the new legislative period, is envisaging the imposition of a penalty of 350 YTL on those who fail to receive passports for their live stock, and contains a provision stipulating that those who detect contraband livestock entries into the country will be rewarded. According to the information given, the highest number of contraband live stock enters into the country from Oran and Iraq, and it is also noted that the animals that are brought into the country through contraband means are carriers of “all types of animal diseases”.The authorities have also noted that the inefficiency of the measures taken up to date in the smuggling of live stock and animal products into the country, have created the need for the implementation of new and more strict regulations regarding this subject matter.
